Bill Spooner grew up in Woodland Hills and starred at basketball, football and baseball for Taft High. He played football for one season at San Diego State and two years at Pierce College. Spooner spent three years as a minor league baseball umpire, was a high school and college basketball referee for a dozen years. Spooner then moved on to becoming an official NBA Referee from 1989-2021 and has worked 1,956 regular season games. He officiated Magic’s second game back from retirement against the Bulls at The Forum in 1996 and worked Kobe Bryant’s 81-point spectacle against the Toronto Raptors in 2006. He was  also part of the crew that called the Golden State Warriors’ recordbreaking 73rd win in 2016.
